This field-intensive role is designed for safety-focused, dependable candidates who are comfortable with physical outdoor work and interested in developing into a qualified pole inspector or crew foreman.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with visual inspection, site preparation, excavation, backfill, restoration, and cleanup around wood utility poles in accordance with client requirements and Foreman direction.
  • Assist qualified personnel with sounding, boring, measurements, preservative treatment, tagging, and other pole-life-extension activities; do not make independent assessment or treatment decisions unless trained and authorized.
  • Use tablets, mobile applications, GPS-enabled devices, photographs, and digital forms to support accurate pole-level data collection and documentation.
  • Maintain crew tools, treatment materials, PPE, and assigned vehicle/work areas in a safe, organized, and production-ready condition.
  • Follow product labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), environmental requirements, and company procedures for handling, storing, transporting, and disposing of treatment materials.

  • Follow applicable 811/One Call and ground-disturbance requirements and immediately escalated unsafe conditions, access issues, damaged facilities, or questionable pole conditions.
  • Work cooperatively with Inspectors, Foremen, and the Supervisor to meet safety, quality, and productivity expectations.

Key Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior utility, construction, landscaping, locating, inspection, or other outdoor field experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company motor-vehicle requirements.
  • Ability to perform repetitive outdoor physical work, follow detailed procedures, and use hand tools safely.
  • Comfort using smartphones, tablets, and mobile data-collection applications.
  • Ability and willingness to complete required company/client training for pole inspection, treatment, ground disturbance, safety, and data collection.

This position is primarily field-based in utility rights-of-way, roadside environments, customer properties, and uneven terrain. Work requires frequent walking, standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, digging, and use of hand tools in heat, cold, rain, mud, vegetation, insects, and traffic. Regional travel and overnight assignments may be required based on project needs.
