Job summary

United Utility Services in Denver is seeking a Pole Inspection & Treatment Crew Foreman to lead a field crew in inspection, treatment, and documentation of wood utility poles. You will direct daily operations, ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, and coordinate with the Pole Inspection Supervisor.

This hands-on leadership role requires experience in pole assessment and treatment, strong communication, and the ability to coach crew members while managing equipment, PPE, and field

Qualifications

  • Minimum one (1) year of direct experience in the assessment and treatment of wood utility poles; additional experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in sounding, boring, excavation, decay assessment, treatment, restoration, and pole-level documentation.
  • Successful completion of company-approved safety, assessment, preservative-handling, and competency testing.
  • Meet applicable client and state requirements for pesticide/commercial applicator qualification for assigned duties and jurisdiction.
  • Ability to lead a field crew while balancing safety, quality, productivity, crew development, and cost awareness; valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily field execution for assigned Crewmen and Inspectors; organize work, conduct job briefings, assign tasks, and maintain safe and productive crew operations.
  • Perform and oversee qualified visual assessment, sounding, boring, excavation, decay evaluation, treatment, restoration, tagging, and pole-level documentation.
  • Ensure crew decisions, treatment actions, data records, and completed work comply with current client specifications and approved company procedures.
  • Perform routine in-process and end-of-day checks of photographs, measurements, GPS/location data, condition codes, treatment records, tags, and notes before submission.
  • Coach crew members, reinforce approved work methods, and ensure personnel perform only work for which they are trained, qualified, and authorized.
  • Maintain truck, tools, treatment materials, PPE, inventory, and field supplies in a safe, organized, and production-ready condition.
  • Enforce applicable 811/One Call, ground-disturbance, OSHA, DOT, electrical-safety, traffic-control, environmental, pesticide, and stop-work requirements.
  • Escalate critical rejects, unusual conditions, access issues, quality concerns, scope questions, and conditions outside crew authority to the Pole Inspection Supervisor.

The salary for this position is $26-$31 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

Location: Hiring for multiple locations (North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Denver and New Mexico)

About The Role

The Pole Inspection & Treatment Crew Foreman is the working field lead for a utility pole inspection and treatment crew. The Foreman directs daily crew execution while performing qualified assessment and treatment work and is accountable for crew safety, productivity, quality, customer-specification compliance, field documentation, truck/material readiness, and coaching. The Foreman reports directly to the Pole Inspection Supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior foreman, crew-lead, trainer, or senior assessment-technician experience.
  • Current state pesticide/applicator license applicable to wood-pole treatment.
  • Experience with PAPR, groundline inspection, pole-life-extension, formal QC, 811/One Call, damage prevention, or utility locating.
Work Environment

This is a working Foreman position with regular hands-on inspection and treatment duties in addition to crew leadership. Work involves frequent walking, digging, kneeling, bending, uneven terrain, roadside environments, customer properties, outdoor weather, vegetation, insects, and energized utility environments. Regional travel and overnight field rotations may be required.
