Position Overview

This position is responsible for filling both regular and short-notice vacancies across all operational classes within the Water Production Division. When not covering a vacancy, the Relief Operator will work with Maintenance or the Administrative Group as directed by Division Management. The typical schedule when not covering a vacancy is 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, and during coverage, hours are either 6:00 am - 6:00 pm or 6:00 pm - 6:00 am.

Responsibilities

1. Operate and maintain water production plants and facilities, including supervision of modern solids contact lime softening and conventional lime softening facilities, wells, storage vessels, and booster stations.
2. Control plant machinery and equipment to treat and clarify water for human consumption and industrial use.
3. Maintain, repair, and adjust water plant equipment, including pumps, chemical feed machines, and control panels.
4. Monitor and record operational data, conduct water quality testing, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
5. Operate chemical feed equipment, filters, and pumps; perform backwashes and chemical adjustments.
6. Supervise and coordinate work activities, ensuring safety and efficiency.
7. Perform routine inspections and maintenance of remote site facilities.
8. Handle chemical storage and delivery, including transferring chemicals and maintaining safety protocols.
9. Maintain detailed logs of plant operations and system levels.
10. Work on various maintenance tasks as assigned, under supervision.
11. Adhere to safety practices and organizational policies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of water treatment principles, mechanical and electrical equipment operation, and safety procedures.
• Ability to operate and calibrate measuring and monitoring equipment.
• Physical ability to lift chemical bags weighing approximately 60 pounds repeatedly.
• High school diploma or G.E.D.; must pass a Class I Water Supply Operator certification test within six months of hire.
• Preferred: Possession of a Class I, II, or III Water Supply Plant Operator Certificate from the Ohio EPA.
• Additional skills include effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.
