Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Facilities, and assisting the Utility Plant Operator II, the Utility Plant Operator I performs skilled work related to the operation, installation, inspection, modification, remodeling, and repair of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, blowers, and all ancillary equipment associated with Central Plant Utility Operations. The role involves collaboration, initiating, and supporting opportunities aligned with the Tribe's goals and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, record, and report compliance data; adjust equipment to ensure permit compliance; monitor and perform maintenance on switchgear, generators, boilers, chillers, and related machinery; maintain logs.
- Inspect and perform preventative or corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and environmental systems; coordinate troubleshooting with other departments and vendors.
- Document operating data, inspections, testing, and maintenance; update equipment documentation and plant logs.
- Assist in responding to emergency situations to resolve operational or safety concerns.
- Review blueprints, drawings, and ISO specifications for new construction.
- Perform other duties to support departmental efficiency.
Educational, Experience, and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least one year of facility maintenance experience, including cogeneration, power plant, or boiler operation.
- Trade school training in HVAC, electrical, or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Perform maintenance, operation, repair, and diagnosis of utility systems.
- Experience with central plant equipment, piping, and water analysis.
- Proficiency with shop tools, welding, safety procedures, and reading technical documents.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with MS Word, Excel, CAD preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations
- Possible requirement for a gaming license.
- EPA certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Primarily in a facility setting with travel required for meetings and events.
- Work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds, perform physical activities, and operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and other environmental factors.
