Join to apply for the Utility Plant Operator-Associate role at UT Health San Antonio

Under direct supervision, responsible for providing technical skills in the operation and maintenance of equipment within a thermal energy plant and utility distribution systems.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain equipment regulating the flow of chilled water, steam, air, water, and heating into buildings from a central distribution point.
  • Monitor control boards and regulate equipment based on procedures and readings from instruments.
  • Record changes, discrepancies, and repairs in the control room log book.
  • Proficiently start up/shut down and operate steam boilers (oil and natural gas fired), deaerator tanks, feed water pumps, condensate pumps, and piping systems.
  • Operate steam and electric chillers, chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps, cooling towers, and piping systems.
  • Perform chemical analyses of plant water systems, ensuring all tests are completed and parameters are within normal ranges.
  • Make necessary adjustments and corrective measures.
  • Document discrepancies and repairs, communicating effectively with staff and supervisors.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Competent in operating HVAC, steam, chilled water, air, and vacuum systems; knowledgeable of reverse osmosis and water softening systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to accuracy and detail.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
Experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in operating and maintaining utility distribution equipment, or 1 year in a comparable health thermal energy plant environment.
Required Skills

Same as experience requirements: 3 years in utility equipment operation and maintenance or 1 year in a similar environment.
