Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a Utility Plant Electrician to install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment and controls within our campus utility plants.

Responsibilities include metering, distribution, and plant automation, with a strong emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and minimizing downtime. Candidates should understand VFDs, motor starters, UPS systems, schematics, and NEC standards, and be prepared to work around voltages from 24V

Qualifications

• 2 years of electrical maintenance experience in a plant/industrial environment.
• 5 years of general electrical experience or equivalent education/experience to 5 years.
• Ability to run RMC and EMT raceways with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work with voltages from 24V–15kV.
• Valid driver’s license.

Job Summary

Utility and Energy Services at CU Boulder encouragesapplications for a Utility Plant Electrician! The primaryfocus is the installation, maintenance, inspection,troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment, controls,metering, and related systems. Work is performed with a strongemphasis on safety, code compliance, and minimizing downtime. Theposition also supports the campus wide utility metering system,I&C, and Medium Voltage tasks.

Candidates should have general knowledge of power distribution equipment, motors, Variable Speed/Frequency Drives (VSD, VFD), electrical metering, totalizers, and pneumatic devices, and a working knowledge of electrical diagrams and circuits, and familiarity with NEC.

Who We Are

Utility and Energy Services is responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of the campus’ energy generation and distribution infrastructure for steam (heating), chilled water(cooling), and electricity. We provide the campus community with reliable utility services in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner and offer measurement, line locating, performance engineering, regulatory, and data management services.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

• Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and install electrical equipment and devices within district energy plants. This includes VFD's, Motor starters, UPS systems, Electrical distribution systemsand a variety of industrial control and metering devices. Complete small projects including the installation of RMC and EMT conduit within plants and campus buildings. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues specific to plant automation controls used in a utility plant environment. Perform regular maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Inspect contractor installed equipment and ensure work follows national and local electrical codes, safety regulations, and company/campus standards.
• Work with other groups and departments on campus to generate LOTO's and safety procedures, troubleshoot electrical metering, coordinate outages, respond to customer demands and supervise contractors. Collaborate with plant operations and maintenance teams to identify electrical needs and provide recommendations for improving plant performance and safety. Communicate with supervision and coworkers on system needs and assignments, keeping management informed.
• Maintain documentation of plant repairs and PM's. Schedule and coordinate work tasks, ordering parts and material, analyzing trends and data, reviewing drawings and schematics.

What We Require

• 2 years of experience of electrical maintenance in aplant/industrial environment.
• 5 years of general electrical experience or a combination of relevant education or relevant experience equal to 5 years.
• Ability to run RMC and EMT raceways with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work on and around voltages ranging from 24V-15KV.
• Must be willing to respond to plant and campus emergencies/outages.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

What We Would Like You to Have

• Valid Journeyman Electrical License (CO or reciprocal state).
• Understanding of process controls.
• Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high-pressure systems.
• Knowledge or prior experience with boilers, chillers and associated equipment.
• Experience with AC and/or DC controls.
• Experience with instrumentation devices.
• Experience with diagnostic electrical test equipment.
