Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and related piping.
  • Locate, repair, and replace malfunctioning parts using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect mechanical components and perform soldering, brazing, and metal fabrication/repair.
  • Work with drawings and specifications.
  • Install and repair water and drain lines.

Max Pay - Depends on experience: $23.73 USD Hourly

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma and three years (3) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Job Profile Summary: Serves as a lead trades worker in an area of specialty to ensure proper installation, modification, and repair of related systems.

Job Description: Facilities Management, West Valley campus, seeks a Utility Piping Specialist to install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including performing complex and precision work related to utility piping systems.

This position is located at the West Valley campus but will require working at other ASU campus locations based on program need.

This position will remain open until filled.

Essential Duties:
  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including performing complex and precision work related to utility piping systems.
  • Locate, repair, and replace malfunctioning parts using hand tools (e.g. screwdrivers, pliers, crescent wrenches, piping wrenches) and power tools (e.g. drills, hand held drain cleaning machines).
  • Inspect mechanical system components and use soldering, brazing, and, layout, fabrication, joining, and repair of metals, piping, and pressure vessels.
  • Work with drawings and specifications.
  • Install and repair water lines and drain lines.
  • Prioritize urgency of work.
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in: installing, repairing, and/or maintaining plumbing and domestic water, vent, & utility piping systems
  • Experience in: inspecting utility mechanical system components
  • Experience in: backflow testing/repair
  • Experience in: drain waste systems
  • Experience in: using blueprints
  • Experience in: customer service
Knowledge of:
  • Chilled water piping systems
  • Plumbing codes
  • Computer software, work order tracking system
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
Working Environment:

Perform work in dirty environments with inadequate lighting, extreme noise, extreme temperatures, confined spaces (e.g. tunnels, man holes, vaults), restricted movement and hazardous materials.

Climb ladders and work off ladders using hand and power tools to repair plumbing and drainage systems.

Work off boom or grove truck to make repairs above six feet.

Lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.

Travel throughout campus.

Safely operate university vehicle.

May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).
