Job summary

Walbec Group in Madison, WI is seeking a Utility Pipe Layer to install, align and inspect underground utilities including water mains, sewer lines and storm drains. You will prepare trenches, lay pipe to grade and ensure connections meet project specs.

Lifting up to 75 pounds and variable hours are required. Responsibilities include assisting with machine maintenance, site clean-up and other duties as assigned by the Foreman.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL strongly desired.
• High School diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
• Must be punctual and dependable.
• Able to work varied hours including nights, early mornings, and weekends as needed.
• Be able to tolerate and work in variable weather conditions, and work in dirty and dusty environments.
• Member of a Local Laborer Union, or willingness to become a union member are required. Union membership is not required prior to employment.
• 3-5 years road construction laborer experience is preferred.
• Minimum 6 months experience in assembling and installing sanitary sewer pipe and manholes, water main, and storm sewer pipe and manholes.
• Knowledge of confined spaces, OSHA trenching and sloping is preferred.
• Must be able to lift 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Install, align, and inspect underground utilities such as water mains, sewer lines, storm drains, and other piping systems.
• Prepare trenches, lay pipe to grade, and ensure proper connections meeting safety and project specifications.
• Assist in keeping machines and equipment maintained and in clean-up of job site.
• Perform other duties assigned by Foreman or management.
