Job summary

Cardinal Civil Contracting is seeking a reliable construction laborer to support pipe installation, site preparation, and general labor on active underground utility projects in Charlotte, NC. You will assist crews, handle materials, and help maintain a safe, organized jobsite.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, 6 months to 1 year of construction experience, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months to 1 year of construction or underground utility experience.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
• Willingness to learn and grow within the company.

Responsibilities

• Assist pipe layers and equipment operators with installation of water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
• Hand tools and materials to crew members and assist with alignment and placement of pipe.
• Prepare trenches and job sites by clearing debris and ensuring proper grading.
• Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and around job sites.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
• Perform general labor duties as assigned to support project completion.
• Follow instructions from supervisors, foremen, and crew leaders.
• Maintain predictable and reliable attendance.
• Model and enforce Cardinal’s safety program; participate in daily safety briefings and follow trench and excavation safety protocols.
• Comply with company policies and OSHA regulations applicable to the role.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Cardinal Civil Contracting is a heavy civil and site development contractor and part of Cardinal Infrastructure Group (Nasdaq: CDNL), a publicly traded infrastructure company with operations across the Carolinas and Atlanta metro and expansion underway into Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.

Key Responsibilities

Pipe Installation Support

• Assist pipe layers and equipment operators with the installation of water, sewer, and storm drainage systems
• Hand tools and materials to crew members and assist with the alignment and placement of pipe
• Prepare trenches and job sites by clearing debris and ensuring proper grading

Materials, Tools & Jobsite

• Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and around job sites
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company and OSHA standards
• Perform general labor duties as assigned to support project completion

Preferred Skills, Competencies, Education & Experience

• 6 months to 1 year of construction or underground utility experience
• Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment
• Familiarity with trench safety and underground utility work
• High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Demands

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb; repeatedly lift and carry 50+ lbs; operate hand tools and equipment; work in trenches with required protective systems

Work Environment

• Active underground utility construction sites, including open trenches, excavations, and work zones near traffic.
• Exposure to outdoor weather, heat, cold, noise, dust, mud, and moving heavy equipment. Required PPE is provided and must be worn on all sites.
• Schedule: early starts and extended hours; occasional Saturdays as project needs require.
