Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Monessen Coke LLC in Monessen, PA is seeking an entry-level Utility Person to perform routine cleaning and support operations on battery ovens.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Clean doorjambs, doorsills, machine faces and frame, faceplate between will and bench on the pusher and coke side of the battery.
  • Damper and remove lids, sweep, and seal lids as part of routine work.
  • Assist Pusher Machine Operator in keeping oven doors clean and sealed.
  • Assist Door Machine Operator in keeping door machine clean.
  • Assist Larry Car Operator in pouring coal.

Job description

Location: Monessen, PA As a Utility Person at Cleveland-Cliffs Steel located in Monessen, PA, your contributions will be visible all around you; the work we do here impacts people for generations to come. The primary functions of the position are to clean doorjambs, doorsills, machine faces, frames, faceplate, and oven door seals on the battery ovens.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Perform simple routine work of cleaning doorjambs, doorsills, machine faces and frame, faceplate between will and bench on the pusher and coke side of the battery.
  • Perform simple routine work, dampering and removing lids, sweeping, and sealing lids.
  • Assist Pusher Machine Operator in keeping oven doors clean and sealed.
  • Assist Door Machine Operator, in keeping door machine clean.
  • Assist Larry Car Operator in pouring coal.
  • Responsible for some hazardous waste management functions.
  • Perform physical waste activities (e.g. moving and labeling containers, collecting samples, inspection etc.).
  • Generate or contact hazardous waste as part of production/maintenance process.
  • May utilize accumulation container(s).
  • Comply with all Safety, Health and Environmental Regulations, Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required and must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Candidates must be able to successfully pass the Utility Persons Services Assessment test.
  • Must be able to perform simple tasks involving physical labor using simple hand tools including shovel, broom and jamb bar, etc. and the ability to lift in excess of 25 lbs.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety information, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, respirator equipment, boots with metatarsal protection, etc.)
  • Must be able to work at heights, work in extreme heat and cold, and around hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be able to work overtime and a rotating shift that shall include weekends and holidays, as well as climb and or walk on uneven surfaces.
