Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. is seeking a hands-on production specialist for the 3rd shift (Sunday-Thursday, 11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.). The role fills in for the shift lead and ensures welding and machining tasks are completed safely and to high quality standards.

You will work with supervision to supply tools and materials, train teammates, and support continuous improvement efforts. Qualified candidates have at least 3 years of welding or machine operation experience, read blueprints, and can operate

Qualifications

• This role requires at least 3 years of welding or machine operation experience.
• Learn all Midsize functions and operate at least 2 pieces of equipment, or 1 piece with pole setup capability.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, procedures and blueprints.
• Ability to use a tape measure.
• Pass a forklift driver’s test.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Knowledge of shop mathematics and reading complex prints to standard specs.

Responsibilities

• Operate an overhead crane and assist with continuous improvement goals.
• Help train others and complete required paperwork.
• Provide feedback to the Supervisor on team performance.
• Act as back-up for shift lead and area staff as needed.
• Maintain a safe, efficient production environment and high-quality Valmont products.
• Operate two of the following or pole setup: trap shear, cut-to-length, profiler, sub arc welder/HLAW, brake press.
• Wear all required PPE and operate forklift/overhead crane as needed.

Compensation: $30.32 per hour

Schedule: 3rd shift, Sunday - Thursday 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

A Brief Summary of This Position

This is an individual contributor position that performs all phases of production and is responsible for filling in for the shift lead person during their absence. This individual performs duties associated with the assigned shift and assists the Shift Supervisor in ensuring employees have the tools and material they need to provide inspection and high-quality Valmont products.

Essential Functions

• Ability to operate an overhead crane
• Collaborate with department leadership to achieve continuous improvement and department goals
• Assist with the training of others and complete appropriate paperwork
• Provide feedback and input to Supervisor about team performance
• Act as back up for the shift lead and area employees when needed
• Maintain a productive working environment to manufacture high quality Valmont products in safe and efficient manner
• The ability to operate 2 of the following, or able to perform pole setup with the ability to operate 1 of the following: trap shear and cut to length equipment, profiler, sub arc welder and/or HLAW, brake press.
• Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the position
• Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

• Minimum of 3 years of welding or machine operation experience
• Ability to learn all Midsize functions and at operate least 2 pieces of the equipment, or 1 piece with the ability to perform pole setup.
• The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedural manuals and blueprints
• The ability to use a tape measure
• The ability to pass a forklift driver’s test
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
• Knowledge of and ability to use common shop mathematics, in feet, inches, degrees, and fractions, in reading complex prints, and standard specifications.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

• Associates Degree or higher preferred
• Experience with the Midsize department or similar manufacturing machinery
• Currently Welder C status or higher
• Demonstrated experience in a Utility role at Valmont
• Practical hands‑on experience in Lean Manufacturing
• Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
• Previous robotic welding experience
