Town of Hudson is seeking a Utility Operator I to join our public works team in Colorado. The role supports operation, maintenance and repair of Town facilities and water systems, with on-call duties and licensing opportunities.

Duties include meter reading, maintenance and repair, snow removal and customer service. A high school diploma and Colorado driver's license are required; CDL and water/wastewater licenses are preferred or obtainable within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; substitution possible.
• Colorado driver license required; Class B CDL preferred or obtained within 12 months.
• Colorado Class D water and wastewater operator licenses or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Previous water/wastewater or general construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and repair work assignments.
• Install, repair and read water meters; assist licensed operators with lines and facilities.
• Perform janitorial/maintenance duties, snow removal, and grounds maintenance.
• Operate hand/power tools and mobile equipment; manage inventory.
• Maintain records and reports; communicate with the public with high service standards.
• Rotating on-call duty as assigned.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This position performs a variety of activities and on-call duties, assisting in skilled and semiskilled trades, maintenance, construction, janitorial and equipment tasks in connection with the operation, maintenance and repair of Town facilities. The Town is seeking an individual who is actively seeking licensing and training opportunities.

JOB SUMMARY

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Performs a variety of maintenance and repair work assignments.
• Perform a variety of general labor and maintenance tasks including the installation, repair and reading of water meters.
• Assist licensed operators in the repair and maintenance of water or wastewater lines and facilities.
• Perform general janitorial or maintenance duties relating to Town facilities and streets, including snow removal, as assigned.
• Identify equipment and material needs for assigned project. Operate hand and power tools, as well as mobile equipment and maintain inventory of parts and equipment used.
• Perform regular grounds maintenance at Town facilities.
• Communicate with public regarding public works activities with a high level of customer service. Responds to customer complaints and inquiries.
• Independently complete assignments and resolve problems under general supervision.
• Maintain and complete required paperwork, records, and reports related to assigned work activities.
• Rotating on-call duty as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent experience or training may be substituted.
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Individual must possess and maintain a current Colorado driver's license; Class B CDL preferred at time of hire or must obtain within the first 12 months of employment.
• Must possess Colorado Class D water and wastewater operator licenses or be able to obtain such licenses within 6 months of the date of hire.
• Previous water, wastewater, or general construction experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• The ability to read, comprehend and follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of common tools and materials used in construction and maintenance work is highly desired.
• The ability to perform a variety of semiskilled maintenance and repair tasks; mechanical aptitude; ability to perform task outdoors in a variety of climatic conditions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other employees, and the public.
• Ability to use computer for SCADA monitoring.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to maintain neat and legible records.
