Job summary

Celanese in Hopewell, Virginia seeks a Utility Operator to manage site utility services including steam, cooling and water systems, with rotating 8-hour shifts that include nights and weekends. The role emphasizes monitoring, testing and maintaining plant performance with a focus on safety and environmental compliance.

The ideal candidate will handle chemicals in water and waste treatment, support the Emergency Response Team, and work with minimal supervision in a Lone Worker environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience with boilers, chillers, air compressors, and cooling towers.
• Knowledge of water treatment chemistry and testing.
• Ability to read instrumentation and control systems; troubleshoot.
• Strong communication via email and Lotus Notes.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and SAP.
• Ability to coordinate permits and contractor work.
• Ability to operate independently during upset conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate boilers and dowtherm boiler burners.
• Feed oil and monitor pressure, temperature and draft.
• Maintain log of readings and fuel consumption.
• Control pumps and valves to regulate water and air flow.
• Monitor and adjust the cooling tower and related systems.
• Support Emergency Response Team as needed.
• Work rotating 8-hour shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
