Job summary

Valmet in Columbus, MS is seeking a self-driven Utility Operator to maintain and operate autoclaves and related equipment in a manufacturing setting. You will perform routine loading, material handling, basic repairs, and safety-compliant tasks while supporting production teams.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to wear a respirator and lift 25–50 lbs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required and basic mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to read and follow instructions and use measuring instruments.
• Knowledge of specifications related to rolling and vulcanization processes.
• Capable of wearing and using respirator and safety equipment.
• Must be physically capable of lifting 25–50 lbs and performing repetitive tasks.
• Strong customer service skills when dealing with vendors and internal customers.

Responsibilities

• Operate autoclaves and perform routine loading and unloading.
• Make minor repairs and adjustments to autoclaves and related equipment.
• Install/remove bearings and process heads; move rolls as needed.
• Transport materials and load machines; ensure proper setup.
• Move raw materials and mix cement as required by the process.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area and equipment.
• Operate a forklift to move parts where applicable.
• Conform to specifications and quality requirements for production.
• Adhere to safety policies and environmental procedures at all times.
• Assist with additional duties and projects as assigned.

Job Duties and responsibilities:

• Operating Autoclaves.
• Making minor repairs and adjustments to Autoclaves.
• Installing and removing bearings and process heads, transporting rolls.
• Loading machines.
• Moving raw material, mixing cement.
• Cleaning, removing waste materials from machines.
• Ability to operate forklift to move parts.
• Conforms to applicable specifications.
• Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work area and equipment
• Always observes safety policies.
• Complete tasks while following all safety and environmental policies and procedures
• Performs other miscellaneous duties and/or other special projects as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

High School graduate or GED equivalent. Mechanical aptitude, ability to understand, follow instructions, learn the use of all methods and practices used in vulcanization of rolls, and learn to use all measuring instruments and graphs required to check and perform job functions. Knowledge of specifications within job functions. Capable wearing and using respirator and other safety equipment. Having full range of physical movement and able to use equipment to lift and move considerable weight. Capable lifting 25 to 50 lbs. Demonstrated effective customer service skills in dealing with vendors and internal customers.
