Job summary

McCormick & Company, Incorporated is hiring a 3rd shift Utility Mechanic/Electrical Technician at our Geneva, IL site to support maintenance of operations and production equipment. You will troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance in a team environment.

The role requires 7–9 years of industrial maintenance experience, GMP familiarity, and ability to lift 50 lbs and work at heights. A safety-first approach and PLC/HMI knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical degree preferred in Industrial Maintenance or Electrician field.
• 7–9 years of industrial maintenance/electrical experience.
• Familiar with GMP, safety procedures (LOTO, Hot Work), and equipment drawings.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment including motors, pumps, valves, and VFDs.
• Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and electrical drawings.
• Complete maintenance work orders in the system.
• Maintain safe work practices and follow GMP standards.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Engineering Department and the Maintenance Manager, the Utility Mechanic or Electrical Technician will support the maintenance needs, both mechanical and electrical, of Operations and Production in standard conditions, including troubleshooting and repair, preventative and predictive maintenance. This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing production/processing equipment to reduce machine-related downtime, eliminate losses, and improve machine reliability. The Technician should be able to work in a Team environment, working with all areas of the business to provide support, repairs, and solutions to various problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment including:motors, pumps, valves, agitators, circuit boards, VFDs, fans, blowers, etc.and a general understanding of air compressors, chillers, boilers, dustcollectors, HVAC, and other utility equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, technical specs, electricaldrawings, etc.
• Completes Work Orders in Maintenance Connect System
• Performs all work in a safe and clean manner, performs Lock-out Tag-out procedure correctly when working on equipment, follows all safety procedures correctly when welding, cutting, polishing, reports food safety risks and abides by GMP standards.
• Operate heavy equipment including: boom lifts, scissor lifts, fork lifts, lulls, etc

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Prefferred Qualifications

• Technical Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Electrician, or equivalent.

Experience

7-9 years of experience in an Industrial Maintenance or Electrician role, preferably in the food industry. Understands Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety requirements with working on industrial equipment (LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, electrical safety, chemical safety). Understands the fundamentals of material compatibility, sanitary design, equipment drawings, general utilities (gas, air, electric, water).
Familiar with the general names of parts, diagrams, equipment, etc.

Interpersonal Skills

This position requires excellent cross functional communication skills. Provides mentoring, coaching and leading technology and technical skills development. Provides feedback to Production on problems and solutions; recommends improvements within the department. Provides support with training, learning and education as well as best maintenance practices.

Other Skills

The candidate should be very detail oriented, have strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities, demonstrated grammatical and organizational skills and must be a self-starter, who is able to work independently. Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Word) required. Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, Work Order Systems. Must be able to lift 50lbs, work up to heights of 50ft, become forklift and man-lift certified.
