Job summary

Chemtrade in Beaumont, TX is seeking a Utility Mechanic responsible for maintaining and repairing plant equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring adherence to safety procedures. The role requires climbing, lifting and working in hot environments with appropriate PPE.

The position features a 4-day rotating schedule (6:00am–4:30pm) with overtime and weekend work as needed, and compensation of $47.34 per hour. Prior chemical/industrial experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and 3+ years in industrial/chemical environments (preferred).
• Ability to use computer effectively (maintenance management system, email, Microsoft Office).
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and schematics.
• Willingness to complete job function training or certification programs.
• Off-shift availability including weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Perform certified welding, cutting and burning; repair pumps, gearboxes and motors.
• Perform mechanical power transmission coupling and shaft alignment; manage process and utility piping.
• Complete work instructions and forms related to maintenance, safety and preventive maintenance; keep records neat.
• Report non-conformances promptly and propose corrective/preventive actions.
• Operate mobile equipment (man lifts, forklifts) and replace nuts/bolts in pipe flanges (1”–48”).
• Work in extreme temperatures with appropriate PPE (PVC rain suit, boots, gloves, face shield).
• Maintain weekly time sheets and comply with plant rules and regulations including punctuality.

Scope of the Position

Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for but is not limited to maintaining, rebuilding, repair, and the preventative maintenance of all plant operating equipment and facility buildings. Responsible for ensuring all related SOP's and plant rules pertaining to RMP, PSM, safety, operating procedures, and personal conduct are followed. Responsibilities of this job requires diversity in mechanical ability to perform overall plant maintenance. Work includes tank vessel opening and clean outs, changing of piping, valves and general plant upkeep and maintenance .This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and also lifting (within OSHA guidelines). This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform certified welding, cutting and burning. Perform pump, gearbox and motor repair.
• Perform mechanical power transmission coupling and sheave alignment. Responsible for the process and utility piping. Inform Plant Manager of need to order parts consumed or for job completion.
• Complete all work instructions (work orders) and forms relating to maintenance, safety, and preventive maintenance, keep paperwork neat and clean.
• Timely reporting of any non-conformance issues in operations and make recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.
• Operation of the following mobile equipment: Man lift Forklifts and other mobile equipment Replacement of nuts and bolts in pipe flanges ranging in size from 1” - 48” diameter flanges.
• Physical capability of performing tasks in 100 degree ambient temperatures while wearing Protective Personal Protection such as Acid Resistant approved PVC rain suit (topcoat, bottom pants, rubber boots, gloves and face shield). Must be able to work scheduled 8-hour days with intermittent 14 – 16 hour days for emergency repairs.
• Maintain weekly time sheets in accurate format. Follow all plant Rules & Regulations including lack of tardiness and absenteeism.

What You Need To Be Successful

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 3 years + of relevant experience in industrial or chemical environment highly preferred.
• Ability to use computer effectively, Microsoft programs, maintenance management system, e-mail, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.
• Must be able to complete specific job function training and/or certification programs.
• Ability to work off-shift requirements including: periodic emergency call out during off shift, including weekends and holidays.
