Responsibility for performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal water, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems. Work responsibilities extend to providing work direction to less experienced maintenance workers and laborers. Work is performed under the general direction of the Utilities Systems Foreman.
Substantial knowledge of water, sanitary sewer, and storm drain systems and appropriate repair and maintenance methods.
Substantial knowledge of the city codes regarding water and sewer services.
Ability to assign and direct the work of other employees.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors and the general public.
This position provides work direction to less experienced workers and laborers.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and confined spaces. The employee is exposed to cold, heat, snow, wind, rain.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, kneel, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate hand and power tools, various maintenance and repair equipment, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone and two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.
The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. Employee must be available for on-call work. This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.
Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
