Job summary

The City of Elgin is seeking a dedicated Utility Maintenance Technician to operate and maintain equipment used in water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. The role involves on-call rotation, emergency responses, and inspections of lift stations, with supervision by the Utility Maintenance Foreman.

Candidates need a HS diploma/GED, at least two years of related manual labor experience, and a valid Texas driver’s license; a Class D water license may be obtained within 12 months, with a CDL Class

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED plus two years of related manual labor experience.
• Valid Texas driver's license required; ability to obtain Class D water license within 12 months.
• Preferred Class A CDL license.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment, power tools and shovels as needed.
• Transports and operates backhoe, dump trucks and VacTron for maintenance.
• Dig trenches, lay pipe and backfill as part of utility work.
• Perform heavy and skilled labor when not operating equipment.
• Maintain equipment safety and conduct on-call emergency work.
• Maintain TCEQ certification and CDL license.
