Job summary

Sunrise Telecom Inc. is seeking a field-based Utility Locator to identify and mark underground utilities across job sites in Minnesota. You will read maps, interpret blueprints, and operate locating equipment to ensure accurate placement for construction crews.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, a valid license, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather. Strong communication and reliability are essential for coordinating with contractors and project managers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities (fiber optic, gas, electric, water, sewer, etc.) using specialized equipment.
• Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and GIS data to ensure accurate locating.
• Utilize electromagnetic locating devices and ground-penetrating radar as needed.
• Clearly mark utility locations using paint, flags, and other approved methods in accordance with industry standards.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, crews, and project managers regarding utility locations and potential conflicts.
• Document all locates, including photos, sketches, and reports, using company systems and applications.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and local/state guidelines (e.g., 811 requirements).
• Respond to emergency locate requests as needed.
• Maintain and care for company-provided equipment and vehicles.

Work Environment

• Primarily field-based work in outdoor environments.
• May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call availability.
