Job summary

USIC is hiring an Utility Inspection Technician in the Boston area. You will inspect gas meters for leaks and corrosion, document findings, and report to the work site on time. The role offers daytime, full-time hours with overtime and occasional weekend work, plus paid training and a suite of benefits.

New technicians progress to higher pay as they become fully qualified, with ongoing training and support. A valid driver’s license and safety-first mindset are required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts may be required.
• Able to stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Able to pass a drug screen (safety-sensitive role).
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect gas meters for leaks and corrosion; visual inspection and documentation.
• Complete all required forms, electronic or paper, during inspection visits.
• Report on-site conditions and ensure timely start of shifts.
• This is a daytime, full-time role with potential weekend work and overtime.
• Instructor-led training will be provided.

The starting pay for this position is $24-$32/hr., depending on experience. New technicians will be moved to $25/hr. once fully qualified and working independently in the field and $26/hr. after reaching their first anniversary date.

Utility Inspection Technician: Responsible for checking gas meters for leaks and corrosion. This includes visual inspection and ensuring all required paperwork/data are completed. Meter Inspection Technicians will be required to report to their respective work area on time at the start of each shift. While on-site, the technician will be responsible for identifying any abnormal operating conditions along with accurately filling out all forms associated with the inspection visit (the form may be electronic or paper).

These are daytime, full-time positions and overtime may be required. Instructor-led training will be provided. This position may require you to work weekends.

What We Need from You (Our Requirements):

• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Previous outdoor experience is a plus
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed
• Able to stand and walk for long periods of time on varying types of terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs.
• Proficiency with technology
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners. Customer service experience is a plus
• Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position)
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record required
• Ability to use simple hand tools
• Ability to read a utility map
