Job summary

Weston & Sampson is expanding our practice in the southeast and seeking an experienced Utility Design Project Manager for our Apex, NC office. The role supports project teams, develops utility design plan sets, prepares construction provisions, and manages cost estimates and permit packages for NC transportation and municipal projects.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, NC PE or ability to obtain, and proficiency with MicroStation/Open Roads; MS is a plus.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required.
• MS in Civil Engineering is preferred.
• Professional Engineer License in NC or ability to obtain one as part of career development.
• Proficiency in MicroStation V8i or Open Roads to develop plan sets.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Manager with engineering work.
• Develop utility design plan sets for transportation and municipal projects.
• Prepare Utility Construction Provisions / Specifications per NC DOT or municipal requirements.
• Prepare cost/quantity estimates for design stages.
• Prepare and submit Permit Packages to state agencies or municipalities.
• Travel within NC for meetings and site visits; possibly to other offices.
• Conduct on-site field work to verify conditions and observe contractors.
• Prepare legible, concise notes and drawings.
• Represent Weston & Sampson at project meetings and conferences.
• Work independently with minimal direction and coordinate with client contacts.
