Job summary

Collier County is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee staff and ensure maintenance and construction projects meet codes and quality standards. You will coordinate work orders, schedules, and safety compliance while guiding teams across multiple sites within the county.

The ideal candidate has a Journeyman’s license, a Florida driver’s license, and at least six years of related experience, with fingerprinting required for employment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Six (6) years of related experience.
  • Fingerprinting required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Journeyman’s license from the local government in trade or equivalent within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff and conducts performance appraisals.
  • Oversees daily activities of personnel engaged in maintenance and construction work; reviews timesheets and leave.
  • Prepares, receives, and distributes work orders; delegates assignments and coordinates staff schedules.
  • Monitors daily activities and progress of maintenance and renovation projects; ensures codes compliance.
  • Schedules preventative maintenance on county systems and equipment; supports technicians.
  • Responds to service calls and emergencies; coordinates with EOC during disasters.
  • Maintains safety adherence and provides technical assistance to technicians.

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Oversees and coordinates, either personally or through subordinate supervisors, daily activities of personnel engaged in routine maintenance and construction work throughout the County; reviews and submits timesheets and leave time.
  • Prepares, receives, and distributes work orders; organizes workflow; delegates assignments to subordinates and assigns special projects; coordinates staff schedule to meet project deadlines; dispatches tradespersons to work locations.
  • Monitors daily activities, performance of duties, and progress of special service projects, alterations and renovation projects, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Inspects various building sites throughout the County; ensures integrity of work; ensures that work is completed or in transition follows applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations, and those discrepancies are corrected.
  • Schedule’s preventative maintenance on systems and equipment throughout the county; renders technical assistance to specialized technicians performing maintenance and repair to equipment.
  • Observes, implements, and adheres to all safety rules and regulations during operation of equipment and for personal/personnel safety.
  • Responds to service and emergency calls for simple repairs or adjustment tasks, power outages, elevator failures, sewer/drain backups; directs action to contain leaks or otherwise limit further damage to facilities.
  • Organizes emergency response work crews to perform necessary repairs in the event of a hurricane, floods, or other disasters; coordinates efforts with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
  • Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information/assistance from the public, tradespersons, vendors, employees, officials, supervisors, or other individuals and Divisions.
  • Meets with various contractors to obtain estimate quotes on projects.
  • Contact vendors to discuss product quality, view demonstrations, approve product for use, and obtain pricing information; prepares requisitions for parts, materials, and equipment.
  • Prepares annual budget request for Division and capital projects budgets for the fiscal year; assists with monitoring expenditures for fiscal compliance; reviews and approves invoices to be processed for payment.
  • Conducts and attends divisional staff and safety meetings, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate; maintains comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations.
  • Operates a personal computer, printer, calculator, copy and facsimile machines, telephone, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing software.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Six (6) years of related experience.
  • Fingerprinting required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
  • Must obtain and maintain a Journeyman’s license from the local government in trade or equivalent within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
  • Performs general labor tasks such as digging trenches, laying sod and landscaping, collecting trash, measuring, cutting, and producing boards, storm damage clean-up; performs tasks associated with pest control.
  • Gathers, transports, loads, and unloads various equipment, tools, and materials used on projects or at work sites; follows all safety precautions necessary in operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operates, cleans and/or services a variety of hand and power tools, machinery, and equipment as prescribed by trade apprenticeship training standards; cleans and maintains shop areas, work sites and storage areas.
  • Inventories and maintains enough supplies and materials to ensure adequate availability to perform daily tasks; trains inventory personnel; orders and receives materials for projects.
  • May be required to be on twenty-four-hour call and/or regularly work on various shifts, weekends, and/or holidays as deemed necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
