Job summary

Abacus Technology Corporation is a Federal government contractor providing IT services and solutions. We seek a field technician specializing in cable location and surveying to support utility relocation and construction projects in government facilities.

You will analyze blueprints, operate surveying equipment, perform calculations to locate buried lines, and prepare diagrams and reports for project teams. US citizenship and an active Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in cable location and surveying.
• HS diploma or GED.
• Familiar with technical equipment used for cable location.
• Able to conduct the necessary calculations to accurately locate buried lines.
• Able to operate drafting, map-making, and GIS software.
• Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding the placement of utility lines.
• Experience interpreting data.
• Must be a US citizen with an active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place.
• Use magnetic, radar and electrical equipment to locate utility lines.
• Utilize GPS or surveying equipment to pinpoint coordinates of lines.
• Perform calculations to arrive at the depth of lines.
• Prepare diagrams and sketches that show the location of lines.
• Compile gathered data and prepared images into professional reports.
• Inspect areas following the completion of renovations or new construction to check utility lines.
• Participate in planning or inspection meetings to present findings.
