Job summary

Radius Recycling in McMinnville, OR is seeking team members for production duties. Starting probationary rate is $24.77/hr with progression to $31.05/hr after 6 months, depending on performance. The role requires working in extreme weather, strict safety adherence, and reliable attendance.

Ideal candidates will be able to obtain torch, overhead and forklift certifications and may have manufacturing experience. This is a full-time, on-site position with strict safety and quality expectations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to communicate using hand signals and have both written and verbal communication skills.
  • Read and speak English and understand written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Good balance and coordination as well as common sense.

Starting Probationary Rate: $24.77/hr

Essential Functions
  • Must be able to perform all duties in extreme types of weather from very hot to very cold.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, observing all safety rules and regulations pertaining to the job or work area.
  • Punctuality and consistent attendance required.
  • An ability to obtain and maintain torch, overhead and forklift certification.
  • Experience in manufacturing a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Sitting: Rarely, while on breaks. May also sit when operating trackmobile or forklift or crane.
  • Standing/Walking: Continually. While walking on gravel and concrete as well as smooth, rough and uneven surfaces, including debris
  • Crouching (Bend at Knees): Occasionally. While aligning couplers.
  • Stooping: Occasionally use torch to cut scrap and look under cars for debris and while shoveling scrap.
  • Reaching: Occasionally. While pulling stickers off stacks up to six feet high. Occasional overhead reach to remove debris extending beyond sides of cars and while shoveling loads weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Twisting/Turning: Frequently. While throwing rail switches (requires greater than 70 pounds of pressure) and while shoveling debris.
  • Climbing: Frequently. While climbing on and off moving equipment (forklift, trackmobile and water truck) and on extension of cars to remove debris. Also while climbing over debris.
  • Crawling: Occasionally. On uneven and rough ground to work on derailment 9. Kneeling: Occasionally. Work on derailments and pulling scrap out from under railcars.
  • Leg/Foot Control: Frequently. To release switch handles.
  • Handling: Rarely. Removing stickers (25 to 60 pounds) from stacks.
  • Fingering/Feeling/Grasping: Frequently. While grasping ladder on side of railcars up to ten minutes at a time, shoveling scrap.
  • Balance: Continually. Must have good balance and coordination while working around moving equipment.
  • Vehicle Use: Occasionally. Forklift (four- and ten-ton), water truck, golf carts (rarely).
  • Pushing/Pulling: Frequently. Aligning couplers. Also requires the ability to lift body weight onto handles of railcars to climb onto car.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Frequently moves 25 to 60-pound stickers from the ground and stacks to six feet high and shovels steel during cleanup (25 pounds). Must also be able to lift body weight onto rail car by handles of cars.
USE OF SENSES
  • Talking in Person/By Telephone/Two-Way Radio: Continually while communicating with Trackmobile Operator over radio (when stepping up to Switchman).
  • Hearing: Continually. For radio communication with trackmobile and to hear sirens and alarms.
  • Vision: Near/Far Vision: Continually. To see traffic and debris on track and moving equipment. Requires good peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Smell: Occasionally. To detect fire and fumes.
