Job Description

Position Summary: Lead and coordinate all utility-related activities to ensure maximum operational reliability and compliance in a food and beverage manufacturing facility. This role focuses on safe operation of critical utilities, preventive and predictive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with KHMS pillars (Work Management, Asset Strategy, Failure Elimination) and SMRP best practices.

Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and PPE requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM/RMP, GMP, HACCP, and QRMP standards.
  • Oversee compliance for ammonia refrigeration, boiler systems, and wastewater treatment.
  • Support internal and external audits and lead corrective actions.
  • Assist with safety training, monthly safety meetings, member of safety committee, and provides technical support for all safety projects.
Utilities Operations & Reliability
  • Direct building utilities and maintenance personnel to ensure optimal operation of steam, refrigeration, compressed air, water, wastewater systems, building fabric upkeep, dock doors, ramps, roofs, walls, floors and overall grounds maintenance.
  • Monitor and record utility usage; report trends and anomalies to ESG teams.
  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for building and utility systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in all buildings and utility equipment.
Continuous Improvement
  • Drive initiatives to improve reliability and reduce downtime through equipment modifications and process improvements.
  • Ensure that equipment and facility are maintained in a safe, operable condition and/or arrange for replacement/upgrades.
  • Participate in Lean, Six Sigma, and KHMS initiatives to optimize energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Analyze downtime reports and initiate action plans to increase efficiency.
Planning & Coordination
  • Collaborate with planners and other supervisors to ensure accurate job plans and resource allocation.
  • Verify spare parts availability and coordinate with MRO team for critical spares.
  • Assist in developing and managing departmental budgets and capital projects.
Leadership & Training
  • Supervise building and utilities staff, including performance management and employee development.
  • Provide technical training on utility systems, CMMS usage, and safety compliance.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
Critical Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration, boiler systems, compressed air, and wastewater treatment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms (SAP preferred).
  • Understanding of KHMS and SMRP frameworks for reliability and asset management.
  • Communicate with outside agencies i.e. contractors, equipment suppliers, technical consultants and vendors.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage change initiatives.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Utility System Uptime: ≥ 99% availability for critical utilities.
  • Preventive Maintenance Compliance: ≥ 98% completion of scheduled PM tasks.
  • Energy Efficiency: ≥ 5% annual reduction in energy consumption per production unit.
  • Unplanned Downtime Reduction: ≥ 15–20% annual reduction for utility-related failures.
  • PSM/RMP Compliance: 100% adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Work Order Accuracy: ≥ 95% compliance with documentation standards.
  • Training Completion: 100% of utilities team trained on KHMS and reliability fundamentals annually.
  • Cost Avoidance: Track annual savings from avoided failures and improved energy efficiency.
  • Safety Compliance: Zero safety violations during utility operations.
