Job summary

Role Description The Utilities Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based in the Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill area, responsible for overseeing daily field operations for underground and above-ground utility projects. This role coordinates crews, equipment, and materials; monitors work progress; and ensures adherence to project plans, safety standards, and local regulations. The Utilities Superintendent will supervise installation and maintenance of water, sewer, storm, and related utility systems, conduct site inspections, and resolve issues that arise in the field. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, communicating with project managers, subcontractors, and inspectors, tracking productivity and costs, and documenting project activities. The position also involves coaching field personnel, promoting a culture of safety, and supporting continuous improvement in construction methods and project delivery.
Qualifications

• Experience supervising utility construction projects, including water, sewer, storm drainage, or related infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of construction plans, specifications, and utility installation best practices, including reading and interpreting blueprints.
• Demonstrated ability to lead field crews, coordinate schedules, and manage subcontractors and suppliers.
• Proficiency in maintaining jobsite safety, enforcing safety policies, and complying with OSHA and local regulations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with project managers, inspectors, clients, and field teams.
• Capability to track project progress, quantities, and costs, and to prepare basic field reports and documentation.
• Familiarity with construction-related software or mobile tools for scheduling, reporting, and plan access is beneficial.
• Previous experience as a superintendent, foreperson, or lead in civil or utility construction is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications in construction or utilities are a plus.
• Valid driver's license and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
