Job summary

City of Englewood is seeking a Lead Pipelayer to supervise and coordinate rehabilitation and repair work on water, sewer, and storm lines. You will guide crews, ensure adherence to plans, and maintain equipment on-site.

The role requires at least 3 years of outdoor pipeline experience, a valid Colorado license (CDL A within 180 days), and OSHA-10/trench safety training. On-call and overtime may apply with competitive hourly pay.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure construction execution complies with plans and specifications.

  • Lead and train crew in repair of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm sewer).
  • Manage and maintain equipment for project completion.
  • Provide leadership at project sites and enforce safety rules.
  • Inspect work for quality and specification compliance.
  • Prepare and submit production, safety, time, and other reports.

Job description

The Lead Pipelayer will work effectively with Construction Manager, Superintendent, Foreman and peers in the successful rehabilitation and repairs of a variety of water, sewer and storm water lines for production, safety, quality, and training.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Construction Manager

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to the requirements in the most current and applicable version of City of Englewood Administrative Policy Manual and/or the Englewood Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public and other employees; exhibits a high degree of professionalism, initiative, & tact on an ongoing and continual basis. Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of the facilities maintenance staff within the division.

  • Ensure construction execution complies with plans and specifications

  • Front-line lead employees are responsible for performing, as well as leading, training and directing the activities of a crew in the repair of underground utilities, ie: water, sewer and storm sewer
  • Effectively manage and maintain the equipment for successful completion of each project
  • Provide leadership and supervision at project sites and enforce policies and working rules
  • Continually inspect work performed by crew for quality and specification compliance
  • Perform general construction activities, when applicable
  • Analyze and resolve work problems with residents or crew members in discovering the resolutions
  • Prepare and submit for review production, safety, time, and other reports, as necessary
  • Document progress and redlines of activities for record

Other Duties & Responsibilities

PREPARATION AND TRAINING

Education: High school education or GED

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of pipeline installation experience in an outdoor construction environment and excavation maintenance utility experience in water, sewer and Storm sewer repair preferred.

Certifications and/or Licensures: None

Required Driver's License: Valid Colorado driver's license and a clear or acceptable MVR, Have a CDL A or required to obtain a CDL A within 180 days; with required endorsements.

OSHA-10/Trench Safety Training

An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Able to work well in stressful situations
  • Basic technology skills with laptops, tablets and phones, reporting daily work completed, inspections electronically. Assist with laying pipes, cutting pipes, and bolting pipe fittings and connections
  • Water sewer and storm sewer construction experience required
  • Experience with Water, Sewer and Storm Sewer Main Repair
  • Experience with Gate Valve Repairs and Replacement
  • Experience with Fire Hydrant Repairs and Replacements
  • Experience with Water Taps ¾” through 2”
  • Experience with Sewer and Storm Sewer Point Repairs
  • Ability to properly use instruments for grade
  • Assist with laying pipes, cutting pipes, and bolting pipe fittings and connections
  • Knowledge of maintenance to distribution and collection system
  • Maintain a clean and safe work site
  • Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends as needed
  • Ability to be on call (on call compensation provided)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to listen and comprehend instructions accurately, processes, safety procedures, installation techniques and equipment use
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Knowledge of maintenance to distribution and collection system
  • Other tasks, as assigned

Skills and Abilities:

Computer Skills – Advanced skills needed to work in a high technology environment, work with Computerized Maintenance Management System and other computer periphery equipment.

Communication – Strong skills needed to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to write reports and correspondence, and give direction, guidance and informal presentations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city departments/divisions, management, public officials, contractors, vendors, and the general public.

Analytical – Advanced skills needed to determine maintenance and repairs needed; resolve problems. Strong skills needed to interpret technical manuals, specifications, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.

Mechanical – Strong skills required to work with the tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction.

Mathematical – Strong skills needed to use mathematical formulas and conversion tables.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and stretch
  • Lifting (weights up to 75 lbs.) – Occasionally
  • Lift and Carry (75lbs. for 20 feet) – Occasionally
  • Push/Pull – 8 to 10 hours daily
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions – day or night
HOURLY PAY RANGE
$32.20 - $48.29/hour
