Job summary

RPMGlobal seeks a Utilities Maintenance Specialist 4 (Backflow) to supervise testing and repair of backflow assemblies, train staff, manage schedules, and coordinate with public/private stakeholders. Qualifications

• 4 years of skilled utilities field work experience (water, sewer or reclaimed water) including work management systems.
• 2 years of supervisory experience or crew leadership in a skilled utilities discipline.
• Possess and maintain a Backflow Tester License.
• Possess and maintain a Backflow repair certification.
• Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license.
• Must be available to respond to emergency calls and/or complete work for deadlines.

Job description

This is advanced administrative, technical, and supervisory work supporting the annual testing and repair of backflow assemblies and devices. Employees in this class plan, supervise, and provide technical assistance to operations and maintenance field personnel. *Direction is given to subordinates diagnosing and planning testing and repair work. Employees participate in reviews of new or modified operations and exercise independent judgment within established technical standards. The position reports to a division supervisor, unit supervisor or designee. Duties are highly independent and requires a large amount of public contact, planning and coordination with other agencies.

What Will You Do

• Select and train new personnel, prepare work schedules, conduct performance evaluations.

• Coordinate overtime and maintain employee time records.

• Complete work-related reports and/or maintain operation and maintenance logs.

• Route daily work to provide efficient use of time and labor for daily work and small projects.

• Assign and direct work of maintenance crews in the testing and repair of backflow assemblies.

• Responsible for inventory of asset equipment, employee time records, scheduling of work.

• Prepare, write and conduct performance reviews.

• Make inspection of work site in advance of work performed.

• Make personal contact with public and private citizens to resolve complaints and to provide information.

• Respond to emergency calls as needed or as directed.

• Ensure that adequate types and amounts of equipment and materials are available for project completion and consistently monitors and checks safety practices and procedures.

• Collaborate with other team members on a variety of tasks and leads teams.

• Complete work-related reports, memos and research documents.

• Guide and verify work of employees testing and repairing various types of backflow assemblies and devices.

• Perform related work as assigned or required.

What Do You Need

• 4 years of skilled utilities field work experience (water, sewer or reclaimed water) that includes work management systems; or Completion of a 1 year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and 3 years of skilled utilities field work experience (water, sewer or reclaimed water) that includes work management systems; or

• Completion of a 2 year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and 2 years of skilled utilities field work experience (water, sewer or reclaimed water) that includes work management systems; or

• An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

• 2 years of supervisory experience or crew leadership in a skilled utilities discipline.

• Possess and maintain a Backflow Tester License throughout employment.

• Possess and maintain a Backflow repair certification throughout employment.

• Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license.

• Must be available to respond to emergency calls and/or complete work for deadlines, including hours beyond the scheduled work times.

• Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desired

• Experience with underground utilities water or sewer; water meter management; plumbing and/or backflow prevention. Experience working with a variety of backflow assemblies and devices.

• Experience operating a computerized maintenance management system to create work orders, track business and create schedules.

• Proven leadership skills including leading a variety of teams.

• Good writing skills to provide multiple reports, memos and research documents.
