City of Bradenton is seeking a Water Distribution technician within Public Works & Utilities to perform journey level work installing, maintaining, repairing, and testing water meters and backflow devices, and evaluate cross connections between potable and non-potable supplies.
The role requires holding a Water Distribution Level 3 License or equivalent backflow certifications, a high school diploma, valid Florida driver license, and the ability to work outdoors in varied conditions, including

Under general supervision, performs journey level work for the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of water meters and backflow prevention devices. Inspects and evaluates existing water system facilities for possible illegal cross connections between the potable and non‑potable water supply.
Work is primarily performed outside in varying and extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time. Employees are exposed to loud noises from construction equipment, live sewer systems, debris, hot tar, heavy equipment, hazardous gases, fumes, paint, chemicals and pesticides, confined spaces, heights, uneven surfaces and periods requiring hands in water. Physical effort is required for heavy manual labor in confined spaces and uncomfortable conditions, as well as climbing ladders, bending, reaching and standing for long periods. Health and safety training and personal protective equipment are provided.
Computer, cell phone, telephone, radio, non‑CDL vehicles, light equipment, pumps, power valve turner, trencher, generators, concrete saw, shovels, sledge hammers, wrenches, pipe cutters, ratchets, saws, and other hand tools. CDL‑class vehicles may be operated with proper licensing.
Must possess a Water Distribution Level 3 License, FWPCOA or TREEO Backflow Repair or Backflow Testing Certifications. A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the City Administrator or designee. Valid Florida driver license required or ability to obtain within 30 days of establishing residency, if applicable.
A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is not required for this position.
Pay Grade: 113
Full time. Works a regular weekday daytime shift. Scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends and holidays, may be required. The position normally requires response to emergency conditions.
Supervisor, Crew Chief; Assistant Superintendent; Superintendent; Operations & Maintenance Manager; PWU Associate Director; PWU Director; or designees. No supervision exercised.
