Job summary

Pinellas County Government is hiring a Sewer Operations Specialist 3 for three positions based in Largo/Palm Harbor, with a 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. schedule.

This role performs skilled maintenance, repair and inspection of sewer systems and may supervise crew members. The position emphasizes essential certifications such as Florida CDL with Tanker endorsement, Level 3 Wastewater Certification, and Temporary Traffic Control Certification, with opportunities to advance to UOS4 through the career

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus 4 years of skilled utilities field experience, or equivalent.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement on hire.
  • Possession and maintenance of a Level 3 (or higher) Wastewater Certification.
  • Temporary Traffic Control Certification within 9 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small to medium construction crew installing, maintaining and repairing sewer apparatuses.
  • Perform and direct visual inspection of sewer lines and systems.
  • Install clean-outs, repair and replace sewer infrastructures.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles.
  • Respond to emergencies (stoppages, overflows, etc.).
  • Maintain records and reports.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Sewer Operations Specialist (3 Positions)

Classification Title: Utilities Operations Specialist 3, C21

These positions may be required to report to either location:

  • 6730 142nd Avenue North, Largo, FL 33771 or
  • 3900 Dunn Drive, Palm Harbor, FL 34683

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m.

If you are looking to grow your career in Utilities maintenance, Pinellas County Government will keep you on track. The Utilities Operations Specialist 3 is skilled technical work involving specialized testing, maintenance, and repair of utilities systems equipment, lines, or devices. Employees in this class perform routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of utilities systems and devices. Duties may include supervising skilled and semi-skilled employees, and work is performed in accordance with established procedures, but requires initiative and independent judgment.

This is an excellent opportunity to bring utility maintenance experience into a mid-level career ladder role and train for a Utilities Operations Specialist 3 (UOS3) level. There are future opportunities to advance to a UOS4 level, supervisor or manager roles.

What Will You Do?
  • Lead person of a small to medium-sized construction crew installing, maintaining and repairing sewer apparatuses.

What Do You Need?
  • High school diploma or GED and 4 years of skilled utilities field experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Commercial A Driver's License with Tanker endorsement upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) driving report.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Level 3 (previously a Level C) or higher Wastewater Certification.
  • Possession and maintenance of Temporary Traffic Control Certification within 9 months of employment.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Candidate may be required to perform manual labor for extended periods occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Highly Desirable
  • Ability to operate medium to large excavating equipment.
  • Working knowledge of GIS mapping system for water, sewer and reclaim infrastructure.
