The role requires strong mechanical engineering background, familiarity with water, wastewater, plumbing, underground utilities, and close collaboration with design teams, contractors, and client stakeholders to minimize risk and keep milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience on greenfield pharma construction projects, >$100M.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and utility infrastructure systems.
  • Experience coordinating multiple contractors and disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, coordinate, and execute mechanical utility systems across a pharma capital project.
  • Review designs, calculations, and submittals for compliance.
  • Oversee installation and provide technical support during construction.
  • Coordinate interfaces with process, HVAC, civil, structural, and electrical teams.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, start-up, and qualification activities.
  • Ensure GMP, safety, and engineering practices compliance.

We are seeking an experienced Utility Engineer to support the delivery of a major pharmaceutical manufacturing project valued at more than $600 million in Colorado. This position will play a critical role in the design, coordination, installation, and commissioning of site-wide utility and infrastructure systems that support a world-class GMP manufacturing facility.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical engineering experience, focusing particularly on water, wastewater, plumbing, underground infrastructure, utility distribution systems, and central plant utilities. You will work closely with design teams, construction managers, contractors, and client stakeholders to ensure utility systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project and regulatory requirements.

Day to day:
  • Manage the design, coordination, and execution of mechanical utility systems across a large-scale pharmaceutical capital project.
  • Support the delivery of utility infrastructure including:
    • Domestic Water Systems
    • Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems
    • Stormwater Drainage Systems
    • Plumbing Systems
    • Chilled Water Systems
    • Heating Water Systems
    • Compressed Air Systems
    • Central Utility Plant Infrastructure
    • Underground Utility Networks
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, contractors, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders throughout all project phases.
  • Review engineering designs, specifications, calculations, and vendor submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Oversee utility installation activities and provide technical support during construction.
  • Manage interfaces between utility packages and other disciplines including process, HVAC, civil, structural, and electrical teams.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and identify opportunities to improve installation efficiency and reduce project risk.
  • Support equipment procurement activities, including technical bid evaluations and vendor coordination.
  • Monitor project progress, identify technical issues, and drive resolution to maintain schedule milestones.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, start-up, and qualification activities for utility systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with GMP standards, safety regulations, and company engineering practices.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing turnover packages, as-built documentation, and operational procedures.
Required Skills:
  • Proven experience as a Utility Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Facilities Engineer, or Project Engineer within pharmaceutical / biotechnology GMP environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience working on greenfield facility construction projects or large greenfield project exceeding $100 million in value
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and utility infrastructure systems.
  • Experience working with:

  • Ability to review P&IDs, utility drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
