Responsibilities

  • Manage design, coordination, and execution of mechanical utility systems across a large pharmaceutical project.
  • Support delivery of domestic water, wastewater, stormwater, plumbing, and central utility plant infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and commissioning teams throughout all phases.
  • Review engineering designs, calculations, and vendor submittals for compliance.
  • Oversee utility installation activities and provide technical support during construction.
  • Interface utilities with process, HVAC, civil, structural, and electrical teams.
  • Participate in constructability reviews to improve installation efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Support procurement activities, including bid evaluations and vendor coordination.
  • Monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and maintain schedule milestones.
  • Participate in FAT/SAT, commissioning, start-up, and qualification activities for utility systems.
  • Ensure GMP, safety regulations, and company engineering practices are met.
  • Assist turnover packages, as-built documentation, and operating procedures.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Utility Engineer to support the delivery of a major pharmaceutical manufacturing project valued at more than $650 million in Colorado. This position will play a critical role in the design, coordination, installation, and commissioning of site-wide utility and infrastructure systems that support a world-class GMP manufacturing facility.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical engineering experience with a particular focus on water, wastewater, plumbing, underground infrastructure, utility distribution systems, and central plant utilities. You will work closely with design teams, construction managers, contractors, and client stakeholders to ensure utility systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the design, coordination, and execution of mechanical utility systems across a large-scale pharmaceutical capital project.
  • Support the delivery of utility infrastructure including:
  • Domestic Water Systems
  • Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems
  • Stormwater Drainage Systems
  • Plumbing Systems
  • Chilled Water Systems
  • Heating Water Systems
  • Compressed Air Systems
  • Central Utility Plant Infrastructure
  • Underground Utility Networks
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, contractors, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders throughout all project phases.
  • Review engineering designs, specifications, calculations, and vendor submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Oversee utility installation activities and provide technical support during construction.
  • Manage interfaces between utility packages and other disciplines including process, HVAC, civil, structural, and electrical teams.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and identify opportunities to improve installation efficiency and reduce project risk.
  • Support equipment procurement activities, including technical bid evaluations and vendor coordination.
  • Monitor project progress, identify technical issues, and drive resolution to maintain schedule milestones.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, start-up, and qualification activities for utility systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with GMP standards, safety regulations, and company engineering practices.
  • Assist in the development and review of turnover packages, as-built documentation, and operational procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Utility Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Facilities Engineer, or Project Engineer within complex industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and utility infrastructure systems.
  • Experience working with:

  • Ability to review P&IDs, utility drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, semiconductor, food & beverage, or advanced manufacturing project experience.
  • Experience supporting large capital projects exceeding $100 million in value.
  • Knowledge of GMP-regulated manufacturing facilities.
  • Familiarity with clean utilities and critical utility systems including:
  • Clean Steam
  • Purified Water
  • Process Gases
  • Compressed Air
  • Experience working on greenfield facility construction projects.
  • Exposure to commissioning, qualification, and validation activities.
