Position overview:

As the Utilities Engineer, you’re a key member of the Plant Engineering team, reporting to the Mechanical Lead. You will contribute to the success of Ball by facilitating the smooth operation of can-making line production. You will plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance on utilities equipment. You will facilitate service engineers from Original Equipment Manufacturers to conduct preventive and corrective maintenance according to AMC’s. You will ensure the facility is maintained (lighting, plumbing, air conditioning, and fire systems) to promote good standards.

You will work on energy conservation and water harvesting efforts to support sustainability.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of fire alarm systems, fire hydrant systems, fire sprinkler systems, and foam systems in the chemical warehouse; FM200 / CO2 systems in power stations / IT server rooms. Complete periodical inspections of the systems as per schedule (mandatory). Support fire department audits.
  • Responsible for daily checks and periodic maintenance of utility equipment.
  • Responsible for planning and execution of preventive maintenance activities for washers, UVBRC, and utilities. Track maintenance compliance periodically and take corrective actions to bridge gaps.
  • Ensure washers, UVBRC, and utilities equipment are operated and maintained in optimum condition. Develop action and corrective plans to restore equipment to optimal operation.
  • Review daily operations logbooks, note actions needed, and include them in action lists. Check daily maintenance compliance, verify if daily PMs are performed on-line, and provide feedback to the operating team. Compile and report daily PM compliance periodically.
  • Manage washer chemical consumption, soluble oil, and water consumption; track deviations and take corrective actions.
  • Oversee ancillary equipment operation and maintenance, including washer boilers, coolant systems, DI water, RO systems, wastewater treatment, compressors, vacuum pumps, and scrap systems.
  • Monitor and control critical process parameters/indicators in washers, taking timely actions to highlight and correct issues.
  • Perform corrective maintenance on washers/utilities equipment personally or by allocating resources, minimizing downtime.
  • Plan for spare parts by studying equipment needs and coordinating with spare parts stores to ensure availability, setting minimum/maximum levels.

Experience and skills required:

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in utilities maintenance, including compressors, vacuum pumps, boilers, cooling towers, and chillers.
  • Operation and maintenance experience in medium-scale chemical plants dealing with acidic chemicals, heat exchangers, pumps, and stainless steel piping.
  • Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in software tools, report generation, engineering drawings reading, and understanding.
