Job summary

Google is seeking a User Experience Design Intern for Summer 2027. You will explore UX design across web and mobile, contribute to user research, and create interactive prototypes.

The role targets penultimate-year students pursuing a BS/MS in Design, HCI, or CS. English proficiency and US location are required for the internship, which can be hosted at multiple campuses nationwide, including Chicago.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design (e.g., Interaction, Graphic, Visual Communications, Product, Industrial, etc.), Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with industry standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.).
  • Experience in designing usable interfaces.
  • A design portfolio showcasing design principles for web or mobile platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Help to define the user model and user interface for Google products and features.
  • Develop high level or detailed storyboards, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, researchers, writers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand requirements, and provide creative, thoughtful solutions.
  • Evaluate the usability of new and existing products and make constructive suggestions for change.

Internship Details

Participation in the internship program requires that you are located in the United States for the duration of the internship program.

This internship is intended for students in their penultimate academic year, who are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Design (e.g., Interaction, Graphic, Visual Communications, Product, Industrial, etc.), Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.

Google is a global company and, in order to facilitate efficient collaboration and communication globally, English proficiency is a requirement for this internship program.

Benefits

  • Sick Time: 40 hours/year (increased to 69 hours/year for Seattle) including 5 discretionary sick days per instance
  • Holidays: 13 paid days per year

This role may also be located in our Playa Vista, CA campus.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design (e.g., Interaction, Graphic, Visual Communications, Product, Industrial, etc.), Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with industry standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.).
  • Experience in designing usable interfaces.
  • A design portfolio showcasing design principles for web or mobile platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently attending a degree program in the US and available to work full time for 12 weeks outside of university term time.
  • In their penultimate academic year or returning to a degree program after completion of the internship.
  • Experience working with web or mobile based technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Android Studio, XCode, etc.).
  • UX internship or experience working (e.g., personal projects, academic projects, volunteer projects, etc.) in Interaction, Graphic Design or Motion Design.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.

US: $88000 - $117000 (USD) + 0% bonus target
