3M is seeking an Application Portfolio Manager for the USAC Applications IT organization. Maplewood, MN-based, with travel up to 5% domestically. You will lead the life-cycle management of the application portfolio, set strategic IT direction, and oversee budget, standards, and cross-functional collaboration.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree with 7 years IT/SC experience or a HS diploma with 10 years IT/tech experience, plus supervisory and leadership capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with seven (7) years of IT or Supply Chain experience completed prior to start.
  • Alternative: HS diploma with ten (10) years of IT/technical experience completed prior to start.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Experience with managing IT-related spend and supervising teams.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, communicate and direct multiple IT activities, resources and policies.
  • Manage life-cycle of application portfolio including health, debt, maintenance, and cost to serve.
  • Set medium/short-term IT strategic direction and operating plans for the team.
  • Provide input for IT-related spend and cost management.
  • Implement corporate and regional technology standards and processes.
  • Evaluate IT system needs, data, training, and support in alignment with IT direction.
  • Direct supervision of a team aligned to the Portfolio Focus Area.
  • Prioritize projects across the organization and allocate resources.
  • Lead IT improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Communicate with leadership, cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As an USAC Applications Portfolio Manager, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Plan, organize, communicate and direct multiple IT activities, resources and policies.
  • Responsible for the life-cycle management of application portfolio including; overall health, addressing technical debt, PMT/ITSM maintenance, ITCP completion and understanding the cost to serve.
  • Work as part of the leadership team to set medium term IT strategic direction, operating plans and help develop the organization’s long-term strategy. Set short-term strategic direction and operating plans for the team
  • Provide input for establishing, and responsible for managing, IT-related spend.
  • Implement corporate and regional technology standards and processes.
  • Evaluate the businesses needs regarding IT systems, equipment, data, support, and training in alignment with IT direction.
  • Provide direct supervision of a team aligned to the Portfolio Focus Area
  • Manage and prioritize projects across the organization, set development priorities and plans for organization resources
  • Initiate, lead, approve and sponsor various IT improvement activities and projects
  • Regularly communicate with leadership teams, corporate technical teams and functional leaders
  • Communicate with technical and business teams across multiple functional and organizational levels to obtain approval, cooperation and change acceptance on projects, requests and activities
Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) with seven (7) years of experience in IT or Supply Chain in a public, private or military environment.
-OR
  • High School diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) with ten (10) years of experience in IT and/or technical role in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Five (5) years prior supervisory experience
  • Five (5) years of manufacturing environment experience
  • Five (5) years software portfolio management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in supervising people, teams and/or projects including direction of others and allocation of resources. Possess understanding of team dynamics and how to resolve conflict.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, problem solving, time management, and project planning skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated individual who communicates and influences with credibility and confidence; strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to maintain working relationships from a distance.
  • Experience with managing a diverse set of applications that leverage different technologies
Work Location:
  • Maplewood, MN OR USAC Manufacturing Location at least 4 days per week
Travel: May include up to 5% domestic

The expected compensation range for this position is $164,612 - $201,193, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
