Job description

Position Summary

Join Walmart as a Staff Software Engineer in Information Security, where you will lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable, secure software solutions. This role requires expertise in software architecture, coding, and continuous integration within cloud environments. As AI initiatives scale, manual security reviews and static policy enforcement are becoming bottlenecks. To safely accelerate AI adoption, a dynamic approach applying real-time enforcement model is required. This role will own the deployment of Open Policy Agent (OPA) and OPAL (Open Policy Administration Layer), allowing us to decouple policy from code and enforce security guardrails on live AI data streams.

What you'll do
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, analyze, and address technical and business requirements for information security solutions.

  • Design scalable, modular software architectures that meet security, availability, and performance standards.

  • Develop, review, and maintain secure, efficient code using Python and relevant frameworks on Microsoft Azure.

  • Implement continuous integration and delivery pipelines to ensure timely, high-quality software releases.

  • Conduct risk analysis and contribute to mitigation strategies during requirement gathering and solution design phases.

  • Monitor program metrics and support defect management through root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Drive automation of repetitive tasks to enhance security and operational efficiency.

What you'll bring
  • Proficiency in Python programming and software coding standards to develop scalable, secure solutions.

  • AI/ML Concepts: Fundamental understanding of how different AI systems (Machine Learning models, Large Language Models) are built, trained, deployed (MLOps)

  • AI-Specific Security Risks: Knowledge of the unique security threats to AI, such as model poisoning, adversarial attacks (e.g., evasion, data extraction), and prompt injection.

  • Data Governance & Security: Expertise in securing the AI data lifecycle—from data acquisition and training to inference—including data lineage, integrity checks, and implementing privacy-preserving techniques.

  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals: General knowledge of common cybersecurity principles, threat modeling, and secure SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) practices.
