Job description

Position Summary...

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Architect to lead the design and implementation of our enterprise systems & solutions within the International Store Execution team. The ideal candidate will have a strong development background in Micro Service Architectures using backend technologies like Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and a proven track record of delivering scalable software applications. You will collaborate with product teams, developers, and architects to design, develop, and maintain reliable backend infrastructure.

About Team:

This team focuses on customer, associate, and business needs, working with Walmart International, which includes over 5,200 retail units across 23 countries including Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Mexico, and South Africa.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Guide and mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and lead design discussions.
  2. Act as a technical authority, providing direction and expertise.
  3. Drive adoption of coding standards, design patterns, and best practices.
  4. Lead the creation and maintenance of technical architecture, ensuring performance, security, and scalability.
  5. Produce high-quality software with rigorous testing, code reviews, and CI/CD practices.
  6. Develop technical documentation and communicate architectural decisions.
  7. Promote technical standards and foster a culture of learning and innovation.
  8. Lead project discovery phases, define project scopes, and collaborate cross-functionally.
  9. Stay updated with technological advancements, conducting research on emerging tools and methodologies.
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years in software development, focusing on large-scale distributed systems.
  • Expertise in software design, distributed systems, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience as an architect with large data-backed services and applications.
  • Proficiency in Java, React Native, API development, Node.js, GQL, Kafka, NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Strong debugging and production support skills.
  • Hands-on experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of risk analysis, SDLC, secure coding, and emerging technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field + 5 years' experience in software engineering.

Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in relevant fields + 3 years' experience, with a focus on creating accessible digital experiences, following WCAG 2.2 AA standards, and supporting an inclusive culture.
