Job: Electrical Supervisor

Job Summary

The Electrical Supervisor leads the electrical assembly, wiring, testing, and commissioning of modular systems, prefabricated equipment, control panels, switchgear, electrical skids, process systems, and other off-site constructed products. This position supervises electrical personnel and coordinates labor, materials, safety, quality, and production activities to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, company standards, and applicable electrical codes. This is a fully on-site position located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Responsibilities

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Production & Project Execution
• Direct the daily work of Electrical Technicians, Panel Builders, PLC and Instrumentation Technicians, Electrical Apprentices, and contract electrical labor.
• Assign labor and establish priorities based on production schedules, project milestones, employee qualifications, and material availability.
• Monitor electrical fabrication, assembly, wiring, testing, inspection, commissioning, and final completion.
• Track labor hours, productivity, project progress, and schedule performance against established budgets.
• Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, technical concerns, material shortages, and scheduling issues.
• Coordinate electrical activities with Engineering, Production, Quality, Project Management, Safety, and Supply Chain.
• Provide labor forecasts, completion estimates, project updates, and risk information to management.
• Ensure electrical systems are complete, properly documented, and ready for inspection, testing, or shipment.
• Personnel Leadership
• Supervise, train, coach, and develop assigned electrical employees.
• Establish expectations for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, workmanship, and conduct.
• Monitor employee performance and provide timely instruction and feedback.
• Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee training.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, workforce planning, and corrective action as assigned.
• Review employee time, labor coding, overtime, attendance, and time-off requests within assigned authority.
• Identify employee training needs and support cross-training and skills development.

• Electrical Quality & Compliance
• Ensure electrical work complies with:

• Review electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
• Verify proper installation, labeling, termination, grounding, bonding, torqueing, and workmanship.
• Conduct or coordinate in-process and final electrical inspections.
• Manage electrical punch lists, nonconformances, rework, and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance regarding inspections, deficiencies, and customer requirements.
• Ensure only current and approved drawings are used for production.
• Engineering Coordination
• Serve as a liaison between Electrical Manufacturing and Engineering.
• Review drawings and identify constructability, material, installation, safety, or testing concerns.
• Coordinate the implementation of approved engineering changes.
• Support troubleshooting of design, controls, wiring, and installation problems.
• Provide manufacturing feedback to improve future designs and installation efficiency.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings, design reviews, and lessons-learned meetings.
• Support the preparation of redline drawings and as-built information.
• Safety Management
• Enforce company safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Ensure compliance with lockout/tagout and hazardous-energy-control procedures.
• Verify employees use properly rated and inspected tools and testing equipment.
• Coordinate authorized power-up, energized testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities safely.
• Identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
• Stop work when an unsafe condition or activity is identified.
• Report and participate in investigations of incidents, injuries, property damage, and near misses.
• Maintain safe, clean, and organized electrical work areas.
• Testing & Commissioning
• Oversee electrical testing and commissioning activities, including:
• Point-to-point verification
• Continuity testing
• Insulation-resistance testing
• Grounding and bonding verification
• Power-up procedures

• Alarm and interlock verification
• Ensure testing is performed by qualified personnel using approved procedures and properly rated equipment.
• Coordinate testing with Engineering, Quality, Project Management, customers, and inspectors.
• Ensure testing deficiencies are documented, corrected, and retested.
• Verify test results and commissioning documents are complete and accurate.
• Participate in factory acceptance tests (“FATs”) and customer inspections.
• Approve or recommend completed systems for final inspection and shipment within assigned authority.

• Coordinate electrical material requirements with Purchasing and Supply Chain.
• Monitor material availability and communicate shortages, damage, or delivery risks.
• Ensure electrical materials are properly identified, stored, protected, and used.
• Manage electrical tools, testing equipment, and related production resources.
• Ensure tools and test instruments are properly inspected, maintained, and calibrated when required.
• Promote efficient material usage, minimize shortages, excess inventory, damage, and waste.

Job Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Electrical apprenticeship, technical training, associate degree, or equivalent relevant experience preferred.
• Minimum of 5+ years of industrial, manufacturing, commercial, controls, or modular-construction electrical experience required.
• Previous lead, foreperson, supervisory, or work-coordination experience preferred.
• Experience with electrical assembly, panel building, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning required.
• Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent electrical qualification preferred where applicable.

Technical Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of industrial electrical installation, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of the NEC and applicable NFPA requirements.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of control panels, switchgear, motor controls, transformers, variable-frequency drives, instrumentation, and PLC systems.
• Experience with electrical testing equipment and commissioning procedures.
• Knowledge of electrical safety, lockout/tagout, and hazardous-energy-control requirements.
• Ability to estimate labor needs and monitor productivity, budgets, and schedules.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
