Director, Global Communications – Health & Wellness
Location: Bentonville, AR
The Director, Global Communications – Health & Wellness, will be responsible for 360-degree communication for pharmacy clinical services, specialty pharmacy and quality and safety programs.

What you’ll do:
A Director of Communications overseeing health & wellness communication typically has a broad range of responsibilities focused on promoting a positive public image and delivering key messages related to health initiatives. Here are some of the typical job duties:
Develop communication strategies: Create and execute long-term communication strategies that align with the organization's health and wellness goals.
Oversee messaging: Ensure consistent, clear, and accurate messaging across all channels and platforms regarding health and wellness topics.
Set goals and track outcomes: Establish communication objectives, KPIs, and track performance to evaluate the success of health-related communication initiatives.
Build relationships with media: Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets covering health and wellness topics.
Manage press releases and communication materials: Write and distribute press releases on health and wellness initiatives, events, and outcomes.
Coordinate interviews and spokesperson roles: Prepare organizational leaders or subject matter experts for interviews, public speaking, and media appearances.
Create and manage content: Oversee the development of content for various platforms, including websites, blogs, social media, newsletters, and internal communications. Ensure the content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with health and wellness messaging.
Write and edit materials: Write speeches, articles, reports, and other communications materials related to health and wellness.
Tailor messaging for diverse audiences: Develop communication plans and content for different target groups, such as associates, patients, clients, or the general public.
Coordinate with internal teams: Collaborate across Corporate Affairs, Merchandising, Sustainability, Benefits and other internal stakeholders to ensure effective communication of wellness initiatives within the organization.
Engage associates: Inform and communicate to H&W associates, as well as the broader Walmart associate base on initiatives and important role Health & Wellness plays at the company.
Crisis communication: Prepare and manage internal communications during health-related crises (e.g., public health outbreaks or organizational health emergencies).
Social media presence: Help engage and amplify on social media platforms, ensuring they promote health and wellness messaging.
Create engagement strategies: Develop strategies to engage followers, increase awareness, and encourage participation in health-related programs or initiatives.
Prepare for health crises: Develop and execute crisis communication plans for health-related emergencies, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination.
Mitigate reputational risk: Proactively address health-related issues that could negatively impact the organization’s reputation, ensuring transparency and trust with key stakeholders.
Track metrics: Use tools and analytics to monitor the effectiveness of communications strategies and refine approaches as needed.
Report to senior leadership: Provide regular updates on communication activities, campaign results, and overall impact on organizational goals related to health and wellness.
What you’ll bring:
Ability to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with organizational goals to ensure consistent and impactful messaging across multiple platforms, promoting the health and wellness initiatives effectively.
Strong media relations, including crafting press releases, pitching stories, and building relationships with journalists and influencers in health and wellness sectors to ensure health messages reach a broad audience, leveraging external channels to amplify initiatives and build credibility.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to create compelling and informative content for a variety of audiences (e.g., patients, associates, customers, media) that is clear, concise, and engaging content is easily understood and resonates with target audiences, whether through articles, blogs, reports, or social media posts.
Expertise in managing and growing new media platforms and digital channels, such as social media and podcasts, using analytics tools to monitor engagement and refine strategies.
Ability to respond quickly, calmly, and effectively during crises, managing and mitigating reputational risk to ensure clear, transparent, and timely communication to manage public perception, provide accurate information, and protect the organization’s reputation.
Strong leadership abilities to manage collaborative projects, set goals, and execute strategies while fostering collaboration and creativity.
Ability to use data analytics to track the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns, adjusting tactics based on feedback and results to enable continuous improvement, ensuring health and wellness communications are impactful and measurable.
Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly and confidently in public or in interviews, and prepare spokespeople for media interactions.
Ability to think critically, manage competing priorities, and adapt strategies to overcome challenges or shifts in health trends and public opinion in a complex and fast-changing industry. Flexibility and problem-solving skills are key to adapting communication strategies to new developments or unforeseen circumstances.
Healthcare or Pharmaceutical industry experience is helpful.
