About Marketing & Business Development (MBD)

MBD is a dynamic global team which includes business development specialists, tactical opportunities, brand, marketing and communications experts. By working collaboratively, our team shapes the firm’s client strategy, completes analysis of complex business issues, targets opportunities, develops compelling proposals and creates content and marketing campaigns that lead our digital presence. Together, we define the client experience and shape the perception of Freshfields around the globe.

The Tactical Opportunities team sits within MBD with a mission to help the firm’s lawyers engage in client-centric discussions by providing evidence-based, actionable insights about our clients, prospects, and markets. The team identifies and originates business development opportunities for the firm. This includes rolling market monitoring, agile analysis of unforeseen events that create market dislocations, and forward-looking analysis of impending market events that will impact our clients. The team also informs firm strategy through analysis of the ever-changing legal landscape and supports the firm’s strategic growth initiatives through analysis and reporting on business and client performance.

Responsibilities.

• Develop and co-ordinate BD driven business research for the US practice, through industry analysis, client deep dives and competitor intelligence.
• Utilize and synthesize research platform content to provide succinct and actionable outputs to attorneys and business services staff.
• Develop strong relationships with key MBD and lawyer stakeholders to understand strategic business development priorities and identify areas for research input.
• Keep abreast of market, economic and political developments likely to impact client priorities, including regulatory and legislative changes, market/sector inquiries, position papers, industry news, competitor intelligence, and market monitoring.
• Manage a workstream of business research requests, develop best practice and have accountability for high quality, value add deliverables for our client relationship teams and colleagues across MBD.
• Work with sector / practice teams and MBD colleagues to drive client targeting projects.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.
• 2-5 years’ experience of successfully providing BD driven commercial research and analysis in a legal, professional services or in-house strategic environment.
• Advanced-level research and analytical skills.
• Good interpersonal skills, comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders.
• Experience of working in teams and on self-guided research projects with a consultative approach.
• Ability to work on multiple initiatives, under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Proficient across the applications of the MS Office suite.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to listen, clarify and share information easily to a non-analytical audience.
• Creative problem solving.
• A commitment to the highest levels of attention to detail.
• A commitment to continuous improvement.
• Law-firm specific experience, along with familiarity of US courts and litigation terminology.
• Knowledge of using LSEG Workspace, S&P Capital IQ, Pitchbook, AlphaSense, Fitch, Preqin, or Pirical.
