Job summary

The Daily Mail US is seeking an experienced Opinion Editor to lead and grow our US opinion offering from a hands-on editorial perspective. You will commission voices, edit pieces, and shape a distinctive commentary agenda for national relevance and audience growth.

Reporting to the Executive Editor of Opinion, you’ll build a contributor network, develop newsletters and audio formats, and use performance data to guide strategy and maximize readership and subscriptions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in journalism, editing, or commentary.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong judgment.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and contributors under pressure.
• Strong sense for headlines and editorial tone.

Responsibilities

• Commission and edit timely, bold opinion pieces from diverse contributors.
• Identify breaking news and craft sharp commentary and analysis.
• Maintain distinctive voice, fairness, clarity and impact.
• Build a network of regular contributors and columnists.
• Ensure columns maximize reader engagement and subscription growth.
• Develop newsletters and audio strategies informed by data.
• Collaborate with editors to feature opinion content prominently.
• Monitor analytics to inform editorial strategy and performance.
