Job summary

The Washington Post seeks a versatile op-ed editor for its Opinion Department to commission writers, shape persuasive coverage and explore new editorial forms. You will guide subject-specific op-eds, develop regular features and help expand unsigned editorials for the Editorial Board, while collaborating across teams.

You’ll work with columnists, translate arguments across formats, and contribute to podcasts and multimedia storytelling. Strong reporting and editorial vision are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in journalism, media or communications.
• Experience managing writers and editors.
• Experience developing new editorial forms and publishing techniques.
• Experience with digital media.
• Strong persuasive writing skills.
• A collaborative spirit and ability to build strong partnerships across teams.

Responsibilities

• Create definitive opinion coverage in your area.
• Develop ideas, shape writing and publish the sharpest possible views.
• Coordinate with the wider department to ensure maximum effectiveness.
• Be on the lookout for new writers, fresh subjects and innovations in publishing.
• Participate in editorial board meetings and contribute unsigned editorials.
• Occasionally appear on podcasts, social video and other multimedia offerings.
