The Calhoun School, a leading progressive, independent, coeducational day school in Manhattan, seeks a Upper School Science Lab Tech to begin in August 2026.
Our science program is grounded in a progressive, inquiry-based approach to learning, where students actively engage in hands‑on investigation, experimentation, and scientific problem‑solving. Labs are a central component of instruction and are typically conducted in 90‑minute class blocks. These experiences range from open‑ended experimental design projects, in which students develop and test their own hypotheses, to teacher‑led demonstrations and structured investigations that require students to follow established protocols and procedures.
The science department supports a diverse range of Chemistry and Biology courses, including 10th Grade Chemistry, 11th Grade Biology, Chemistry II, Advanced Chemistry, Advanced Biology, Microbiology, Physiology and Anatomy, and Oyster Ecology. Together, these courses require substantial preparation, organization, and maintenance of laboratory materials, equipment, and protocols to ensure safe, effective, and engaging learning experiences for students.
