Job summary

HelloFresh is seeking a Lead Automation Engineer in Phoenix, AZ to design, implement, and improve automation across the fulfillment network. You will partner with vendors, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver autonomous order fulfilment solutions and optimize DC layouts.

You will lead data analytics, create end-to-end design documentation, and drive business cases for CapEx. Strong PLC/WCS/WMS experience and CAD skills are required to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• 8+ years in multi-site industrial distribution or manufacturing.
• Experience with Warehouse Conveyance and PLCs.
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude and system understanding.
• Experience with WCS/WES and WMS.
• Experience with SQL and data visualization tools.
• Experience with AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and improve automation systems for fulfillment networks.

Title: Lead Automation Engineer

Job Description: The Lead Automation Engineer brings highly technical experience in designing, implementing, and improving Automation systems within the fulfillment network. This role works closely with functional stakeholders, vendors, and other engineers to solve ambiguous problems autonomously.

You will …

• Principal point of contact with external vendors and system integrators to develop automated order fulfillment solutions utilizing top industry technology such as AMRs, Robotics, ASRS, sortation systems, etc.
• Lead the design effort for implementing new technology within a distribution center; including creating detailed Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and requirements documentation to ensure a cohesive end-to-end design.
• Lead data analytic efforts for designing and measuring success for Automation projects. Ability to extract clear and concise outputs from messy inputs.
• Strong experience with optimizing Distribution Center layouts, material flows, Automation equipment, etc.
• Work autonomously with cross-functional team members to ensure their business needs are met by new system designs.
• Owner of business case justification for new technology and/or CapEx purchases
• Coach and mentor for junior engineers and team members, improving their technical and soft skills.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into simple documentation and presentations, independently.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, professional attitude, and approach (and the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization, up and down).

You have…

• BS Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar field required.
• 8+ years of engineering experience in multi-site industrial distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments preferred
• Experience with Warehouse Conveyance (Right Angle Transfers, MDR, Sortation, Spirals, etc.) including working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude and an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate.
• Experience with using Warehouse Control Systems (WCS/WES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
• Experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana, etc.)
• Experience with AutoCAD
