Job summary

HelloFresh in Newark, NJ seeks a Senior Automation Engineer to design, implement, and improve automated material handling within the fulfillment network. You will partner with vendors and engineers to solve complex problems and reduce fulfillment costs with minimal direction.

You will lead data analytics efforts, build operations dashboards, and optimize layouts and equipment. Travel up to 25% (up to 50% during implementations) as projects demand.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar field.
• 5+ years engineering experience in multi-site environments.
• 5+ years experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and data visualization tools.
• Experience with simulation software (FlexSim) and MOST modeling.
• Experience with WCS/WES and WMS systems.
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment/systems.

Responsibilities

• Interface with vendors and system integrators to design automated order fulfillment solutions (AMRs, robotics, ASRS, sortation).
• Lead data analytics efforts for automation and material handling; create dashboards.
• Analyze data and provide actionable insights; measure success.
• Optimize DC layouts, material flows, and automation equipment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet business needs.
• Support business case justification for new technology and CapEx.

Job description

The Senior Automation Engineer brings technical experience in designing, implementing, and improving Automated Material Handling Systems and Technology within the fulfillment network. This role works closely with functional stakeholders, vendors, and other engineers to solve problems and reduce fulfillment costs with minimal direction.

You will ...

• Interface with external vendors and system integrators to design automated order fulfillment solutions. Scope and stay up to date on top industry technology such as AMRs, Robotics, ASRS, sortation systems, etc.
• Lead data analytic efforts for designing Automation and Material Handling Systems. Ability to extract clear and concise outputs from messy inputs.
• Analyze large sets of data and provide clear and actionable insights. Creating operations-facing productivity dashboards and being a pioneer for leveraging data to measure success.
• Optimize Distribution Center layouts, material flows, Automation equipment, etc.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional team members to ensure their business needs are met by new system designs.
• Support business case justification for new technology, CapEx purchases and process enhancements.
• Translate complex technical information into simple documentation and presentations, independently.
• Leverage GenAI to automate time consuming tasks and improve internal processes.

• Able to travel up to 25%, peaking up to 50% during project implementations.

You have ...

• BS Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar field required.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in multi-site industrial distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments preferred
• 5+ Years experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana, etc.)
• Experience with simulation software (FlexSim, etc.) and MOST modeling
• Experience with using Warehouse Control Systems (WCS/WES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude and an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, professional attitude, and approach (and the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization, up and down).
