Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Richmond VA Medical Center seeks a Health Technician (Urology) to support the Interventional Procedure Clinics within Perioperative Nursing Service. You will assist with procedures, prepare rooms, and ensure patient safety and record documentation.

The role emphasizes clinical tasks such as patient prep, specimen handling, cystoscopy support, and device maintenance, under supervision of the Nurse Manager. Full-time, onsite position.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience at GS-08 level or equivalent.
• Experience assisting with urological procedures and managing specimens.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to provide clerical support.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Duties: Rooms patients, records vital signs, and reports abnormalities to RN or Urology Provider.
• Responds to urgent cases and ensures prompt attention from RN/Urology Provider.
• Performs room turnover and maintains supplies for next appointment.
• Cystoscopy Suite: verifies patient identity and procedure site via universal protocol and time-out.
• Performs screening and diagnostic studies including voiding trials and bladder ultrasound.
• Performs urinary catheterizations and changes suprapubic catheters.
• Instructs patients on intermittent self-catheterization and personal hygiene.
• Notifies RN/Urology Provider of issues/complications and documents education.
