Job description

Sales Manager Position

Our manufacturing client based in Durban is looking for a Sales Manager to join their team. The purpose of the role is to manage and lead the department to achieve goals and targets outlined in the sales budget and to take responsibility for the overall management cycle with a key focus on inventory management and pricing within agreed deadlines, compliance and risk frameworks. To investigate, formulate and develop feasible new business concepts to grow and sustain the overall business in alignment with agreed targeted strategies.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Identify new business opportunities against the targeted plans.
  2. Lead projects from inception through to full implementation.
  3. Take full responsibility for performance management and development of all direct reports.
  4. Actively monitor related industries and commodity trends to compile, coordinate and present a successful annual and mid-term budget process (incl. income statement, cashflow forecasting, working capital and return on capital employed calculations).
  5. Manage monthly purchases and sales, as well as coordination with operations for value-add processing and inventory management by ensuring tight daily controls against targeted levels.
  6. Sell and buy price negotiation to ensure best return as well as accurate pricing controls and contractual with planned reviews.
  7. Manage short and medium business planning, including accurate, timely weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
  8. Prepare sales and GP analyses and scheduled finance reports on-time and in-full.
  9. Review inventory rundown sheets or sales plans with each team member to ensure inventory pipelines / sales plans are managed correctly with optimal coordination between all internal & external constituents.
  10. Manage and control the sales and procurement business processes to ensure safe collection and compliance with all necessary regulations in terms of company standards.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  1. Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. B Supply Chain / B.Tech Degree or Advanced Diploma in Engineering or Materials Technology).
  2. Experience in supply chain management / account executive experience in the Metals / Recycling or related sector with exposure to financial analysis, budgeting and reporting.
  3. Business automation experience and SAP proficiency is preferred but not essential.
  4. Knowledge of different metals / commodities across different industries and their applications (automotive or related industry experience is preferred but not essential).
  5. Sound knowledge of sales operations, new business development (prospecting, due diligence and feasibility studies) and negotiations and management of technical key accounts.
  6. Research and analysis capabilities.
  7. Project management experience and ability to lead, manage and delegate in matrix structure with track record of successful project implementation.
  8. Strong management track record.
