Job summary

VetCheck for Pets in Fishers, IN is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support our urgent care team in a fast-paced, rewarding setting. You will assist veterinarians with urgent care procedures and patient handling, without overnight shifts, delivering compassionate nursing care to every patient.

Responsibilities include animal restraint, lab testing, X-ray processing, dental assists, and meticulous record-keeping.

  • Assist veterinarians with urgent care procedures, including animal restraint, catheterization, and aseptic techniques
  • Perform animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, cleaning, grooming, and monitoring patient health status
  • Conduct laboratory tests and interpret results to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Handle pet care duties including pet grooming, pet care education, and ensuring proper animal comfort and safety
  • Manage diagnostic imaging procedures such as X-ray acquisition and processing
  • Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and assisting with dental cleanings or extractions
  • Maintain accurate medical records, update patient charts, and document treatments thoroughly
  • Provide dog handling expertise during examinations or treatments, ensuring safe and effective restraint
  • Assist with laboratory sample collection and processing for diagnostic testing
  • Ensure adherence to veterinary critical care protocols during emergency situations
  • Proven kennel experience coupled with animal handling expertise across various species including dogs and horses
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and veterinary critical care practices
  • Experience with laboratory procedures, X-ray techniques, and aseptic surgical techniques
  • Skilled in animal restraint, catheterization, and maintaining animal safety during procedures
  • Familiarity with pet grooming, pet training techniques, and pet care best practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively using veterinary terminology with team members and clients
  • Knowledge of dental terminology relevant to veterinary dentistry procedures
  • Capable of working efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic about ongoing learning in areas such as equine experience or advanced veterinary technician skills
