Job summary

UrgentVet Hospitals in Elgin is seeking a Full-Time Shift Lead to provide outstanding patient care, team leadership, and client service in a fast-paced urgent care clinic.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years in healthcare or veterinary settings, a medical terminology background, and familiarity with phlebotomy, catheter placement, and lab analysis. This role requires on-site presence and flexibility for evenings/weekends, with opportunities for growth within the department.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in healthcare, veterinary profession, or service-type industry required.
• Medical background with medical terminology training required.
• Associate degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred.
• Six months of prior experience in a management position strongly preferred.
• Animal handling experience including patient restraint, sample collection, and monitoring.
• Clinical skills including phlebotomy, catheter placement, laboratory analysis, and drug calculation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the shift, coordinating paraprofessional staff across all shifts.
• Ensure effective communication with clients, hospital leadership, and support center departments.
• Assist with client resolution decisions, invoice adjustments, and client experience issues.
• Train and mentor new paraprofessional staff and address equipment issues.
• Oversee scheduling and labor management to maintain productivity and quality care.
