Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in McLean, VA is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers in the Urgent Care or Advance Urgent Care departments. Under supervision, you will assist with patient flow, prepare patients, perform venipuncture, IV insertion, and POC testing, and help maintain rooms and equipment.

Required graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program with phlebotomy training and current certification options; BLS; willingness to complete Kaiser competencies within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program that includes phlebotomy training.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certified/registered Medical Assistant per listed credentials (AMT/NHA/NCCT/AMA).
• Kaiser IV venipuncture and IV insertion competency within 6 months of hire.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association.
• Complete Kaiser competencies within the first 60 days and annually thereafter.
• ED/Urgent Care experience preferred; EMR documentation proficiency is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates flow of patients to optimize throughput and informs delays.
• Assists providers and nursing staff in patient care during visits.
• Prepares patients for examinations and supports during and after exams.
• Performs Medical Assistant duties plus venipuncture and IV tasks, POC testing.
• Maintains examination and treatment rooms and cleans/sterilizes equipment.
• Verifies eligibility and collects payments per procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
